How to Get to Fraoch Lodge
Located in the peaceful village of Boat of Garten in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, Fraoch Lodge is accessible by train, car, bike or even on foot. Whether you’re travelling from within Scotland, elsewhere in the UK, or internationally, here are the best ways to reach us.
By Train 🚆
Travelling by train is a relaxing and sustainable way to arrive. Our nearest station is Boat of Garten (Heritage Railway) or Aviemore (mainline station), just 6 miles away.
- From Edinburgh/Glasgow: Regular trains run to Aviemore with a journey time of approx. 2.5–3.5 hours.
- From London: The Caledonian Sleeper is an overnight train from London Euston direct to Aviemore.
- From Inverness: Frequent services, approx. 40 minutes to Aviemore.
Once in Aviemore, you can:
- Take a local taxi
- Use the local bus service to Boat of Garten (limited service)
- Cycle the 6-mile route via the Speyside Way or local roads

By Car 🚗
Fraoch Lodge is easy to reach by road and has free guest parking.
- From the South (via A9): Exit the A9 at turnoff for Carrbridge and Grantown on Spey; follow signs to Boat of Garten (approx. 10 minutes)
- From Inverness: Follow the A9 south to Carrbridge, then take the B970
- From Aberdeen: Take the A96 west to Inverness, then follow directions above

EV Charging: We have 2 EV chargers in the car park and there is also a charger at the community centre around the corner, if there is an issue with our chargers.
By Bike 🚴♂️
We love welcoming cyclists! Boat of Garten is directly on the Sustrans National Cycle Network Route 7, and close to the Speyside Way.
- Secure bike storage available on site
- Drying facilities and basic repair tools provided
- Luggage transfer available for long-distance riders (by prior arrangement)

Single night bookings are available for touring cyclists and walkers on the Speyside Way. Please phone for rates. We only do a dinner, bed and breakfast rate for one night stays.
Hiking the Speyside Way 🥾
Fraoch Lodge is very close to the Speyside Way, which passes right through Boat of Garten. We welcome those on the Speyside Way and offer a dinner, bed and breakfast rate. Please phone direct for details as you can not book a one night stay on our website.
By Air ✈️
If you’re flying into Scotland, the closest airport is Inverness (INV), just under an hour’s drive away.
- Regular flights from London, Manchester, Dublin, Bristol, and Amsterdam
- Car hire available at the airport
- Public transport options include train or bus via Inverness to Aviemore. There is a bus to the city from Inverness airport and there is now a train station now connecting you through to the rest of the mainline system.
You can also fly into Edinburgh (EDI) or Glasgow (GLA) and continue by train or car (approx. 3–4 hours total travel time).
